A hand-built log cabin nestled in the Colorado Rockies. Golden aspens, rushing creeks, wild skies — and everything the wilderness offers.
Tucked in a golden aspen grove at the end of Forest Road 250 in Jasper, Colorado — a small mountain community in Rio Grande National Forest above the San Luis Valley — The Lost Elk Lodge is a genuine hand-built log cabin sitting at over 9,000 feet. National forest surrounds you on every side.
Deer and elk graze past the solar panels. The Conejos River runs nearby. Platoro Reservoir is down the road. This is the real Colorado — not a resort, not a subdivision. Wide open country and a warm log cabin waiting at the end of the day.

The Conejos River is one of Colorado's top gold-medal fly fishing streams. Platoro Reservoir is minutes away and stocked with rainbow and brown trout. Bring your rod, your waders, and your patience.

Colorado elk camp territory. The area around Jasper, Platoro, and Rio Grande National Forest is legendary big game habitat. The Colorado Elk Camp sign on the wall inside isn't just decor — this is that place.

Rio Grande National Forest surrounds the lodge with hundreds of miles of trail — from easy meadow walks to alpine scrambles above treeline, plus stunning waterfalls tucked into canyon walls nearby.

Forest roads and designated OHV routes through Rio Grande National Forest give you hundreds of miles of off-road riding. Forest Road 250 itself is the kind of road that makes you glad you have 4WD.

You're in historic Colorado mining country. Summitville just over the ridge was one of Colorado's most famous gold camps. The creeks and rivers here carried placer gold for early miners — and still do.

Jasper, Colorado sits above 9,000 feet at the end of a long forest road with no cell service and no neighbors. Sometimes the whole point is to vanish for a while. The cabin handles the rest.

Drove up from Alamosa not knowing what to expect and were absolutely blown away. The cabin is gorgeous, elk were right in the yard on day two, and the Conejos was perfect. Caught fish, saw bears from a distance, and slept better than we have in years.
Our elk hunting group uses this as basecamp every fall. The washer/dryer is a game changer, the kitchen handles big group meals easily, and there's plenty of room for trucks and gear. The cabin has an amazing old Colorado hunting lodge atmosphere.
Came for a week in peak aspen season and genuinely didn't want to leave. The cabin is full of personality — the guitar, the old signs, the cowhide rugs. Stars at night are insane. Platoro reminds you that the real Colorado still exists.
Jasper, Colorado is at the end of Forest Road 250. The red sign on the left is your landmark — it's a genuine backcountry drive and worth every mile of it.
