The latest clipping in the collection, reprinting the Monte Vista Tribune. The Jasper Mining Company was working a crew and contemplating putting on a much larger force. They had a large body of ore blocked out which they intended to run through a pilot mill to get an average assay of the entire vein, and if the result was satisfactory a large mill would be built in Jasper.

The company's holdings included the Marion mine, of which the paper says there is an unlimited amount of ore.

The assessment at the end is the same one the Monte Vista Journal made in 1899, thirty years earlier: the quality of this ore is variable, being mostly low grade interspersed with high grade pockets. If the pilot mill test showed a high average it would be a very valuable mine indeed. Whether the test was ever run, and what it showed, is not recorded here.

The right edge of the column is cropped in this scan and the last word or two of most lines is lost, including the number of men employed. The reading above follows the sense of the lines and does not guess at the missing words.
