A big pump goes into the Miser. The Gilmore tunnel is now 380 feet and the vein 15 feet 8 inches, with no exact values obtainable.
A column of items clipped from other papers, and the best single source on Gilmore the museum holds. A big pump was being installed in the Miser mine at Jasper. The snow was still four inches deep around the Gilmore properties. The first product of the sawmill then running was to go to the Gilmore mine for the erection of mine buildings.
Then, from the Pagosa Springs Sun: the vein as cut in the 380 foot tunnel on the Gilmore property is 15 feet 8 inches between the walls. Reported rich but no definate information concerning exact values can be obtained.
Set that against the Monte Vista Journal of 24 May, which put the Gilmore tunnel at 180 feet and said a paying mine was assured. Three weeks later the tunnel has advanced to 380 feet, the vein is measured, and a different paper says plainly that nobody will give it a number. The spelling definate is the original's.
The column closes with John I. Carpenter on Platoro, who is not a miner but a surveyor and may not effervesce as to the manor born. He thinks there is plenty of low grade ore which will require cyanide to make it pay, and that there are a few picture values, but not many.
