New Smelter at Jasper. Work was under way on a modern 10 ton electric smelter on the site of the Miser Mine, built by the Miser Mining Co. and to employ 25 men.

The 120 horse power Corliss engine and 120 horse power boiler that had been at the Asiatic mine for several years were being moved to Jasper for it. Hauling that machinery over the nine miles of mountain road between the Asiatic and Jasper is called quite a task and was being done by the Pridmore Construction Co. This is the same equipment the La Jara Gazette reported being bought twenty one months earlier.

The description of the orebody has not changed in forty years. The Miser has been an inexhaustible body of low grade ore, which contains streaks and pockets of high grade at frequent intervals.

One sentence here comes closer to a production record than anything else in the collection, and still falls short. This ore has been refined in Denver in large quantities with results that have proved beyond a shadow of doubt that the smelter will be a success. Large quantities is not a figure. No tonnage, no assay and no settlement is given, and without one of those it cannot enter the ledger as production. Once the 10 ton smelter proved itself, one of 100 ton capacity was to be erected.
